The University of Oxford is committed to fostering a safe environment in which all students can thrive. Harassment and sexual misconduct in any form are not tolerated here.

We can help you decide whether you'd like to report what's happened to the University or College, guide you through that process and help you to access support. Reporting remains your choice and you can access support whether you report what's happened or not. These include:

  • - Sexual Violence and Harassment Support Service: Provide a safe space for you to be heard, with advisers offering free support and advice to students impacted by sexual harassment or violence. Find out more here.
  • -Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA): Independent from the University, Colleges and SU, the University ISVA can offer tailored support to students who have experienced sexual violence. Find out more here.
  • - College Support: Contact your college's Welfare Lead/Dean for college level support, whether your experience was within college or not.
  • - Survivor Space, Oxfordshire: External to the university support for those who have experienced sexual violence. Find out more here.

If the incident has occurred in the University, there are different processes depending on whether you need to complain about a fellow student or a member of University staff.

Reporting a student   Reporting a member of University staff

If the incident has occurred solely inside your college (e.g. by another member of your college within the college) or is by a member of staff employed by your college (rather than the central university) you can report this via your college's procedures. Whilst we formalise our written advice on this, please read our Advice Agreement then Contact Us and we'd be happy to help if you need support reporting to your college.

Oxford SU has worked with the University of Oxford to collate an single source of information to guide you through:

  • - Support available for you
  • - How to report instances involving other students and/or University staff members
  • - How the university will respond to a disclosure or formal report
  • - Confidentiality around reports
  • - What to expect through the processes
  • - Relevant policies

We'd therefore encourage you to review this webpage to get an understanding of the support available and reporting mechanisms. It will go live on the 1st August 2025.

If you'd like support reporting or would like to discuss your options and support available, read our Advice Agreement then Contact Us and we'd be happy to help.
