Equity Officers represent student members from marginalised student communities. They work on policy making, campaigning and lobbying in conjunction with other Officers, on equality and community-based issues at the University of Oxford. As Oxford SU representatives, you may from time-to-time work with the Sabbatical Officer team on committee agenda items which concern relevant student communities following SU-provided induction and training. As Chair of an associated RepCom (a space for marginalised or specific student communities to come together, organise, and propose policy), they will be the representative for their associated student group and be responsible for spearheading change and representing student voice in this area. Equity Officer Positions:

Black and Ethnic Minorities Student Officer: this role represents, supports and advocates for Black and ethnic minority students whilst creating an inclusive and diverse university.

Class Officer: this role will represent students from working class backgrounds. This may include students who are state comprehensively educated, low income, first generation, care experienced, estranged, young carer, and foundation year students.

Disabled Students’ Officer: this role represents students who identifies as having a disability, whether this is officially recognised or not. This includes physical, sensory, cognitive, mental and developmental disabilities. This also encompasses those with chronic illnesses, learning difficulties, and mental health conditions.

International Students’ Officer: this role represents all international students at the University of Oxford across undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education programmes.

LGBTQ+ Officer: this role represents students who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Suspended Students’ Officer: this role represents and advocates for students considering suspension, current suspended students and those returning from suspension.

Women*s Officer: this role represents all women (trans, cis and intersex) and non-binary people, including those with complex gender identities who associate in some way with the term woman, as well as those who feel they experience structural misogyny.
The criteria for running for any of the Equity Officer positions is self-definition as a member of the representative group. Oxford SU works on self-definition, promoting inclusivity, and advocating for a diverse range of voices and identities within the university community.
